About Me
Hello there! My name is Gülce Besen Dilek. I am a concept artist, illustrator, animator, and director based in Germany. I was born in Istanbul in 1996 and moved to Austria at the age of fifteen to attend high school. Later, I studied animation at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg's Animationsinstitut. After my studies, I was lucky enough to get the Animation Sans Frontières scholarship to enrich my education by attending institutions such as Gobelins, Mome, and The Animation Workshop Viborg.
Over the years, I have worked on various projects, including VR games, animated films, comics, and children's books. Currently, I am available for freelance work and eagerly looking forward to hearing about new projects I can contribute to.
While continuing to do what I love, I'm also directing my own animated films such as KOLAJ(2022), FORBIDDEN T-SHIRT(2018), MAKE UP YOUR MIND(2019), etc. I'm currently developing my next project, THE SOLAROLOGIST, which is expected to be released in 2025.
My Approach
As a director myself, it is crucial to me that the story told meets its own, original visuals and that a unique style is created. However, in a world where every story has been told, and every visual style has been explored, it has become increasingly challenging to design visuals that "look like nothing else". Therefore, when I set out to design a style, my main aim is to ensure that the story discovers its own distinct colors and lines, giving rise to an original style that brings forth the most unique combination possible.
In the projects I've worked on, especially in games and animated films, I've experienced many times that the visual style can influence the development process of the story. Based on the designs, different trajectories about the story can start to emerge. For this reason, I think being a writer and director who makes her own projects is a big advantage in my visual work. Feedback meetings have a tendency to transform into visual brainstorming sessions, leading to mutual inspiration and creative insights.
